Come and explore the hidden
treasure of Trinidad’s old railway heritage sites found in various areas around
the country. The Trinidad Government Railways system operated until 1968 and
has since been abandoned. The old railway lines run through some of Trinidad’s
major towns and villages that possess strong cultural value and meaning.
Three sites along the old railway, Arima,
Debe and Point Fortin, have been recreated into unique tourist attractions
whereby tourists will experience the Amerinidian, East Indian and African
aspects of Trinidad’s multicultural society in a natural environment. The old
California Car train has been remodelled into a “trini style” excursion train and
will be used as the main mode of transportation to and from the respective
heritage sites during our three day package. On each of the three days a
different culture will be experienced.
The international nature seeking tourist is
encouraged; preferably those of a mature age group who want to relax and enjoy
sweet calypso and soca music while witnessing the natural beauty of the flora
and fauna within Trinidad’s biodiverse, primary forests. Modern bathroom
facilities and sleeping accommodations will be provided on the remodelled train however, tourists will
have the opportunity to stay in culturally influenced housings and to dress,
cook and dance in the respective cultural ways.
Tourists will be shuttled from the Piarco
International Airport to the new California car train station in Sangre Grande in
order to begin their culturally diversified and environmentally conscious
journey.
